Still seeking their first win of the season, the Pella Christian football team is back in Class 1A District 6 action tonight on the road at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
The Eagles fell to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in district action last Friday, as they dropped a narrow 20-13 contest on the road at Pleasantville. Meanwhile, the Rockets grabbed their first win of the season a week ago, defeating Colfax-Mingo 28-16 to improve to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the district. Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont is led offensively by senior Cayel Riley, who has accounted for 41% of their offensive yards and half of the team’s offensive touchdowns. Pella Christian head coach Rich Kacmarynski said that it will take a complete team effort to slow down Riley and the Rockets.
“I think we got to win on the line of scrimmage. I think our linebackers got to run to the ball and make good tackles. Obviously, our secondary has got to prevent any big plays. So, it’s going to have to be a team effort, which I feel like our defense is much improved. And then the other thing is, we need to take the ball away a little bit and play some good offense to keep their offense off the field. So, maybe a good defense tonight will be a good offense.”
