Central Women’s Tennis Team Falls to Dubuque in American Rivers Conference Battle

In their first American Rivers match since September 14th, the Central College women’s tennis team returned with a 3-4 loss to the University of Dubuque.

The Dutch (4-4, 2-2 A-R-C) earned the doubles point winning two out of the three matches. Jenna Mitsuko Mahoney and Becca Vala won 6-2 at No. 2 doubles, while Madi Whalen and Kalina Schubert won 6-3 at No. 3 doubles. Lauren Gano won at No. 5 singles 7-5, 6-1, and Emily Blom won 6-1, 6-1  at No. 6. Three other matches went to a third set, but the Spartans won all three.

Central has a quick turnaround from Friday’s loss, competing against Loras today at noon.

Grinnell Ends Central’s Volleyball Winning Streak

After winning seven matches in a row, the Central volleyball was clipped by Grinnell College Friday night 21-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-16, 15-11.

Central (11-5) started strong with wins in the first and third set but Grinnell (12-5) rallied to win the last two sets for the match victory.

Outside hitter Gracie Pierson had 13 of Central’s 55 kills on the night. Kaitlyn Mumm, Leslie Snow, and Landry Pacha each had eight. Avery Rexroat paced the team with 26 assists while Makayla Ribble had 22. Ribble and Rexroat each had a pair of service aces. Pierson had a team-high 24 digs, libero Colleen Kenney had 23. Mumm had six blocks.

Central travels to River Forest, Illinois today for a triangular with Concordia University – Chicago (Ill.) and Lawrence University (Kan.) starting at 2 p.m.
