The Newton Cardinal Football team heads into this week at the top of at least one Iowa High School Football Ranking Service. BCMoore has the Cardinals #1 in Class 4A. That’s up from 9th last week. Newton’s rise to the top follows last Friday night’s 49-28 win over Bondurant-Farrar in Bondurant. It was the first district game of the season for the 4-1 Cardinals. BCMoore reports that  Newton has the 9th highest average point total in Class 4A and the 4th lowest defensive point average. The team BCMoore has ranked second is ADM; the Tigers gave the Cardinals their only loss, a season opening 13-8 defeat in Adel. Newton travels to Pella this Friday night to take on the Dutch at Ron & Joyce Schipper Stadium at Central College. Pella is 5-0 and ranked 5th in Class 4A by BCMoore.
