Homecoming Tuesday at Knoxville wraps up with cross country and volleyball tonight for the Panthers. The cross country squads will host their annual invitational at Pine Knolls Country Club in Knoxville. The class 3A #19 Panthers will host several area and regional teams on a challenging course. Panthers Boys Coach Michael Splavec tells KNIA/KRLS Sports after seeing the trophy being taken by someone else the last several years, he feels confident that his guys can keep the team trophy at home for a change.

Splavec: “Team end game is we win. We have a lot of competition and we’ve lost to some of the teams coming in so we have a couple of days to figure out what we’re going to do. It’s always fun to hos that meet and see everyone there supporting us.”

While the cross country squad is running at home, the Volleyball Squad will travel to Cardinal. The Panthers went 4-1 and placed 2nd at the Boon]e Invitational and currently stand at 15-10 on the season and 2-1 in the conference. The Panthers have been balanced all season up front with three players at or near at least 100 kills. Coach Mollie Keitges tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that all start with setting and Addy Dunkin, while filling big shoes left from last season, have stepped into that role very well.

Keitges: “It’s a hard position and Addy has done a great job and we’re so balanced in our attacking and that’s a credit to her.”

Volleyball will take on Cardinal at 7:15 this evening while cross country will get the starter’s pistol at 5:30.
