The Marion County Farm Bureau held an Ag Day field trip for Marion County fourth graders on Tuesday at the Marion County Fairgrounds.
This event included many different stations highlighting local agriculture organizations, who presented information, hands-on activities, animals, tractors, and more. The kids rotated from station-to-station, getting exposure to many different aspects of the ag industry. 20 classrooms of 426 4th grade students were in attendance, 38 FFA student volunteers, four Chapters of FFA students from Pleasantville, Twin Cedars, Pella Christian, and Knoxville helped at the event, and ten different stations representing a different area of Agriculture including Iowa Pork Producers, Levi Collins on Bees, Lely North America from Pella with Dairy, a tractor safety station, Marion County Extension, Marion County Soil and Water, Iowa Corn with the Ethanol trailer, Knoxville and Pleasantville FFA with animals made up the stations. Jill DeBruin with the Marion County Farm Bureau said this event is a great way to get kids interested in the Ag industry and for them to see how important it is.
“The Marion County Farm Bureau Board wanted a way to affect as many kids from Marion County as possible with how important agriculture is in their life. They started doing this Ag Day where we bring all of the schools together. We are so thankful the Marion County Fairgrounds are letting us host the event here and the Marion County Cattleman are cooking up hamburgers for us this year so we can feed the kids lunch. We are just so excited to share our love of agriculture with the kids.”
The event was held inside the show pavilion.
