Open burning is currently banned in Jasper County. The ban took effect late yesterday and was issued by the State Fire Marshal’s office at the request of Jasper County Emergency Management Agency Director Jamey Robinson. Robinson made the request, on behalf of all fire departments within Jasper County,  due to dangerous fire conditions. After evaluating the request, the State Fire Marshal determined current dry conditions in Jasper County pose a danger to life and property, making open burning unsafe. No open burning is allowed within Jasper County, except for those instances specifically permitted under Iowa Code. The ban will remain in place until conditions improve, and Robinson notifies the State Fire Marshal that the risk has passed. Any violation of the open burning ban is considered a simple misdemeanor.  For more information or specific inquiries regarding exceptions, contact the local fire department or the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office
