The City of Newton Utilities Department will be flushing hydrants on October 25th and October 26th. Hydrants north of 1st Ave will be flushed on Friday, October 25th, while hydrants south of 1st Ave will be flushed on Saturday, October 26th. Hydrant flushing is done to clear water mains of internal corrosion and residue, which naturally build up over time. While water service will not be interrupted, residents may experience a temporary drop in water pressure or slight discoloration. If discoloration occurs, run the cold-water tap until it clears. Avoid using hot water or doing laundry until the cold water runs clear. Only hydrants with the highest flow and those at dead ends will be flushed.
