The Newton Volleyball team hosted the Newton Cardinal Invitational Saturday and won three of their five matches at Newton High School. The Cardinals opened the tournament by beating Boone in straight sets 21-19, 21-18. They also recorded a straight set win over Davis County 21-12, 24-22. The other Cardinal win was a two sets to one victory over Lynnville-Sully 21-4, 19-21, 15-12. Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont and Ottumwa beat Newton in straight sets. Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont won 21-9, 21-3. Ottumwa topped the Cardinals 21-16, 21-13. Top performers on the day for Newton were Isabelle Rawlins with 85 assists, 31 digs, and 7 aces. Chloe Swank contributed 67 digs and 3 aces. Delaney Woollums had 52 kills, 23 digs and one ace. Macy Lampe added 25 kills, 8 digs, 3 aces. Newton is now 9-12 overall.
