Cross Country Visits Centerville For SCC Tune Up

The Knoxville Cross Country Squads will head to Centerville today for a tune up for the conference meet, which is in Centerville next week. The Panthers will see most of the South Central Conference along with other teams from around the area and region. The boys have a goal of contending for the conference title, but Chariton, who is the defending champion, and is ranked #2 in the latest class 2A rankings for the Iowa Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. While Knoxville’s Isaac Rankin, who is currently #10 in class 3A will definitely contend for an individual crown, Coach Michael Splavec tells KNIA/KRLS Sports the rest of the team is growing confident about placing higher than the last few years.

Splavec: “We still have some work to do. We’re excited about where we’re at. The boys are already talking about how they can beat some of their runners, and Chariton runs as a pack really well, and have a great five runners, but if we can get in front of some of their runners then we might have a shot of contending.”

Knoxville will also see several 2A and 1A teams plus three teams from Missouri. The meet is set to get underway at 5:00pm.

Volleyball Hosts Centerville In Pink Out Match

Looking to continue its momentum in October the Knoxville Volleyball Squad will host Centerville for not only a South Central Conference match, but it is the Panthers annual Pink Match. Coach Mollie Keitges tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that while they want to play well and win and keep getting needed wins before the regional pairing come out…there is also another reason why they play tonight. Keitges adds Former Panther Player Anna Buttell, who herself is a Cancer survivor, will also always be a main reason why the Pink Night takes place.

Keitges: “For me this game will always be for and about Anna. It’s also a game to honor the seniors, and we won’t get too sad about that because we plan to play volleyball for several more weeks.”

It is also senior night and the three seniors will be honored before the match, which is set to begin at 7:15.
