Norwalk senior Grady Sigrist qualified for the Class 4A Boys State Golf Tournament on Monday, shooting a round of 73 in the District Tournament at Willow Creek. As a team, the Warriors placed eighth out of 14 schools with a score of 309.

Sigrist, who is ranked 10th individually in 4A, placed sixth in the district field with his 2-over-par 73, including an even-par 35 on the front nine. He earned a state berth by carding the second-best score among golfers from non-qualifying teams. Marshalltown’s Ty Faltys was the first-place medalist with a 70.

Monday’s team state qualifiers were 2nd-ranked Johnston with a 289, followed by Cedar Falls with a 298 and Indianola with a 301. Eighth-ranked Norwalk’s 309 was their highest team score of the season. In addition to Sigrist’s 73, Ian Lux shot a 76 while Mason Johnson, Kaleb Foltz and Dayton Poen all turned in an 80.

Sigrist will compete in the 4A State Tournament at Ankeny’s Briarwood Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday, October 14-15. The field will include 12 teams and eight individuals.
