The Newton Public Library is closed for three days. Library Director Nicole Terry says all technology functions within the library are down because the server is being replaced.

“About every five years it’s recommended that the server be replaced. It houses all of our files, software for the internet stations. It used to authenticate our users. But now the new Integrated Library System we went to last year now does that.’”

Terry says that means even though the building’s technology is down, remote usage of the library’s catalog, Adventure Pass reservations, or any functions through library accounts, such as renewing items or placing holds, are not affected. Once the new server is installed, staff will have to re-network the computers and the software for the internet stations. During this three-day closure, no fines will accrue on library items.
