Wrapping up regular season action Tuesday night, the ranked Pella Christian boys and girls cross country teams each took second place at the Centerville Big Red Invitational.

The Class 2A #14 Eagle boys had 73 points at the Centerville Lakeview Complex, trailing only 2A #5 Chariton, and beating 3A #17 Fort Madison and 3A #20 Oskaloosa. The Class 2A #10 Pella Christian’s girls squad posted 69 points in the meet, trailing just 3A #5 Fort Madison, while defeating 2A #6 Albia and 2A #8 PCM. Sawyer Meinders was not only the top runner for the Eagle boys, but also the overall meet’s best finisher, winning the Big Red Invitational with a time of 16:08.9. Joel Pogany added a top 15 finish for the Pella Christian boys, taking 14th in 17:24.5. Will Vanden Bosch (17:29.9) and Deacon Branderhorst (17:32.40) finished just outside the top 15, taking 16th and 17th place respectively. After becoming the fastest 5K runner in Pella Christian girls cross country history, Bailey Vos followed that up with a seventh place finish in 20:13.9. Hayley Rens (20:16.2) was also a top 10 finisher for the Eagle girls, finishing in eighth place, while Julia Shmalcs (21:00.5) was a top 15 finisher in 15th place.
