A barn was destroyed by a fire on Thursday in rural Marion County. According to a press release issued by Indiana Township Fire Department, crews were requested at 1904 Highway 5 for a barn on fire just before 5 p.m. Personnel at the fire station immediately requested Bussey Fire, Knoxville City Fire and Knoxville Township Fire for additional assistance. Just after 5 p.m., firefighters found a fully engulfed, wind-driven barn fire that had spread to the nearby house. Columbia Fire was then requested as well. Crews immediately began an aggressive interior attack on the house, according to the release. The fire had extended from the exterior of the house to the attic space. The fire in the house was quickly extinguished. However, there was extensive smoke and water damage to a majority of the structure. There were several cats rescued by firefighters inside the structure. The barn was a total loss. Nobody was injured in the fire. The fire is being investigated by a Marion County Sheriff’s Office fire investigator. Agencies that assisted include: Bussey Fire and Rescue, Columbia Fire, Knoxville City Fire and Rescue, Knoxville Township Fire, Marion County Sheriffs Office Dispatchers and Deputies, Marion County Emergency Management, Mid-American Energy and the American Red Cross.
