The City of Newton should save some money on Interior and Exterior Design Services for Westwood Golf Course’s new clubhouse under a contract approved this week. The Newton City Council accepted a proposal from Christine Pletcher DeZign in Newton. That’s a Commercial and Residential Interior Design company that has done work for the Emory Clubhouse in Altoona, the Emory Apartments in North Liberty, and  Attivo Trail Apartments in Waukee. In her proposal to the City, Pletcher reduced her hourly rate by ten dollars to $35.00 per hour. She also waived a retainer fee and promised no mark-up on goods. The City has agreed to pay Pletcher “up to” $5,000. That’s $4,200 in design fees ($35 x 120 hours) plus money for printing, mileage, and other expenses. Newton City Administrator Matt Muckler says Pletcher has access to high-quality furniture and goods at wholesale prices, and will pass those savings on to the city.
