With their victory last week, the Pella Christian football team locked up their 17th postseason appearance in the program’s 20-year history.
The Eagles defeated Cardinal 62-12 last Friday, securing at least one of the four playoff spots in Class 1A District 6. With just one game remaining in the regular season, Pella Christian will attempt to solidify a third-place finish in the district. The Eagles, who currently sit in third place, can clinch that finish in the district standings with a win over Colfax-Mingo this Friday. After a tough start to the year, Pella Christian head coach Rich Kacmarynski said he’s been pleased with how his team has finished out the regular season.
“Obviously in life, you like to start well, but it’s maybe how you finish that’s more important. And I don’t think that’s just some coaching cliche, this season, I think our players have demonstrated how to finish well. I’m still hopeful that we can kind of make a splash in the playoffs here with this team, but I’m really super proud of them. Making the playoffs for the 17th year in a row is very gratifying and something to be very proud of. And again it’s a testimony to this team to see how far that we’ve come so far this year.”
The Eagles will attempt to secure third place in the district Friday night against the Tigerhawks at 7 pm, and the game can be heard live on the KRLS2 stream at kniakrls.com or on the KNIA/KRLS mobile app.
