It was a dominant night for the #6 in Class 4A Pella volleyball team as they celebrated their outgoing seniors with a 3-0 sweep of Newton on Tuesday (25-8, 25-14, 25-19).
The Dutch were off and running from the get-go, scoring the first seven points of the match, keyed by a big run from senior Lyndi Schulte, who tallied three assists, two digs, and an ace in that first burst. Pella controlled the rest of the match with solid all-around play, according to Senior Emma Eekhoff. She’ll be featured on Today’s Lely Radio Sports Page.
Pella racked up nine kills each from Brooke Schulte, Katie Scheckel, and Abbie Brand, and all nine seniors were able to hit the floor for action.
The Dutch finish the regular season at 37-7 overall and in 2nd place in the Little Hawkeye Conference. A first-round postseason bye is up next for Pella, who awaits the winner of Keokuk-Burlington for the 4A Region 6 playoffs next Thursday night at Pella High School.
