The Knoxville School Board approved an activity pass proposal for seniors at their meeting Monday night.

This was a previous agenda item at a school board meeting, because it was stated that there were some blurred lines on what the qualifications were for a senior activity pass. The school  district stated that they were losing money due to this so they wanted to set clear policy. A proposal was approved Monday where senior activity passes will be available to those persons that live in the school district and are 62 years of age or older. The only current stipulation is that people be 62 years of age or older. The proposal would be for passes to be issued annually from the High School Office with the year printed on the pass. The school will keep a log of passes issued which will allow them to know how many passes are out and who has them. Superintendent Cassi Pearson says the old policy will remain in effect until the end of this school year.

“Starting probably next summer, we will start promoting where to go to get that new pass, but for the rest of this year everything is status quo.”

The new policy will take effect August 1st of 2025.
