A perfect regular season was capped off for the PCM football team Friday night, as they picked up their first shutout of the year in a 48-0 victory on the road at Iowa Falls-Alden.

The Mustangs wasted little time jumping out to a big lead over the Cadets, building up a 28-0 advantage on the scoreboard at the end of the first quarter. PCM kept their foot on the gas in the second quarter, adding another 20 points to build up their 48-0 lead, which they held until the end of the game. The Mustangs racked up 440 yards of total offense on the night, with quarterback Gavin Van Gorp throwing for 190 yards with four touchdowns and running for 57 yards with a rushing score. Adrien Robbins led PCM’s ground game, rushing for 119 yards and a touchdown. Equally impressive as the offensive performance was the Mustangs’ defense. PCM smothered the Iowa Falls-Alden offense, allowing just 137 total yards while forcing a fumble. Mustangs head coach Greg Bonnett says he is grateful this team was able to achieve a perfect regular season and that they have big goals for the rest of the year.

“I think it’s great that this group of guys were able to take the regular season and go undefeated. That doesn’t happen that often with any team, even the really, really good ones. So, that’s something to be celebrated for sure. Our goals are pretty lofty, and, you know, we’re a team that we don’t just really want to make the dome, we’re hunting for that state title and it’s kind of where our mentality is right now. But this is a pretty good group of guys I’m coaching here and a bunch of good assistant coaches with me and I tell you what, I’m just, I’m happy to be a part of it. I know I’m lucky to be a part of it and I don’t take it for granted.”

PCM finishes the regular season with an 8-0 overall record and a 5-0 district record, and will learn their first round playoff opponent today at 10 am.
