Two Newton Cardinal athletic teams will be in action tonight. The Newton Colfax-Mingo Pella Aquagirls will compete in the Little Hawkeye Conference Swim Meet at the Indianola YMCA. It begins at 5:30. The Aquagirls last meet was a 77-24 win over Boone on the road. The Cardinal vVolleyball team will try to keep their season going as they open up regional tournament play at Bondurant-Farrar against the Bluejays. Bondurant-Farrar is 15-18, while Newton is 12-16. Newton Head Coach Heidi Woollums says the teams are similar, and the Cardinals need to focus on themselves.

“They look a lot like us. They’ve had their ups and downs as well. We need to go in there and play our game, play with confidence, and control our controlables.”. 

The winner of tonight’s 7 p.m. match will play at Norwalk at 7 p.m. Thursday night.
