All four Pella Christian fall sports teams begin postseason action this week, competing on consecutive days.
The Class 2A #9 Eagles volleyball team kicks off this week’s playoff action on Wednesday, hosting Earlham in the quarterfinals of the Region 8 bracket. Pella Christian, who earned a first round bye and avoided playing on Monday, will be coming off a 2-2 showing at the Knoxville Invitational this past Saturday. Earlham advanced to the quarterfinal match against the Eagles with a win Monday over West Central Valley. The Cardinals victory Monday gave them their third win in their last five contests, after going 2-2 in the West Central Conference Tournament last week. The Pella Christian volleyball team’s quarterfinal matchup against Earlham starts at 7 pm Wednesday and can be viewed live on the Pella Christian YouTube Channel.
The ranked Eagles cross country teams are set to compete on Thursday, hosting one of the five Class 2A State Qualifying meets at the Pella Sports Park. Both the Pella Christian boys and girls cross country teams are coming off fifth place finishes at the Little Hawkeye Conference meet at Maytag Park in Newton last Monday. In their quest to reach State for the fourth consecutive year, the Class 2A #13 Eagle boys will compete against three ranked teams in #1 Mid-Prairie, #11 Anamosa, and #18 Mediapolis. After missing out on State as a team last fall, the #7 Pella Christian girls will try to get back to Fort Dodge for the second time in three years. The Eagle girls will also race against three ranked squads in #2 Mid-Prairie, #10 Hudson, and #18 Grundy Center. Pella Christian’s State Qualifying meet at the Pella Sports Park Thursday is slated to begin at 4 pm.
Wrapping up this week’s postseason action for Pella Christian will be the football team’s Class 1A first round playoff game at #6 South Hardin Friday night. The Eagles secured the third spot in their district standings last week with a 35-0 shutout win over Colfax-Mingo. South Harden was second in the Class 1A District 4 standings, going 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the district. The Tigers lone loss came in a 35-0 defeat against #1 Grundy Center. In their seven victories, South Hardin outscored their opponents 306-73, with an average margin of victory of 33 points.
