A Newton man arrested in January for a pattern of physical abuse towards his infant child is scheduled to be sentenced in December. On Monday, 22 year old Brady Nathanual McDaniel pleaded guilty to two counts of Neglect or Abandonment of a Dependent Person, a Class C felony. He also pleaded guilty to Child Endangerment – Substantial Risk, an aggravated misdemeanor. District Court Judge Brad McCall accepted the pleas and scheduled McDaniel’s sentencing for December 9th. In early November of last year, Newton Police alleged McDaniel forcefully bottle fed an infant. The child’s mother provided authorities a November 6th photo of the infant bleeding from the mouth. The criminal complaint also states an examination at Blank’s Children’s Hospital in Des Moines revealed the child had a tongue injury and partially healed rib fractures. During questioning, Newton Officers said McDaniel admitted he forcibly shook the child, and forcibly squeezed the infant’s abdomen with both hands. He claimed this occurred around December 30th because the two month old would not stop crying, and he was irritated by that. McDaniel is currently free on a $31,000 bond.
