Bids for the renovations and addition at Aurora Heights Elementary School in Newton will be opened tomorrow afternoon. The Newton School Board has approved the sale of $10 million of School Infrastructure, Sales, Services, and Use Tax Revenue Bonds to pay for the first phase of the additions and renovations at Aurora Heights and Thomas Jefferson elementary schools. Those two elementary buildings will remain open in the fall of 2026, once both have been updated to hold up to 500 pre-kindergarten through 4th grade students. The other two elementary buildings in Newton, Emerson Hough and Woodrow Wilson, will close. Director of Business Services for the Newton School District Tim Bloom says a 2nd bond issue to complete the school improvement funding will be done later. That will save the school district money on Interest. Thursday’s 2 p.m. bid opening will take place at the EJH Beard Administration Center on First Avenue West in Newton..
