The Newton Cardinal football team will make a third straight playoff appearance next Friday night. The 6-3 Cardinals will make a three hour trip to #2 Decorah to play the 9-0 Vikings. Newton Football Coach Andy Swedenhjelm feels this playoff berth is significant.

“The last time Newton has been in the playoffs for three straight years was at the end of a run of 15 straight playoffs that ended in 2003. So our kids have a lot of things to be proud of.”

Decorah is the Class 4A District 2 Champions. A win over the Vikings Friday night would send the Cardinals to a second round matchup with the winner of the Western Dubuque/North Scott game. This Friday night’s game at Decorah can be heard live on kniakrls.com KRLS3. The pregame is at 6:30 p.m. with the kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
