While just missing the chance for an undefeated regular season heading into the playoffs, the Dutch football team is regrouping with a chance to push toward Cedar Falls and the Class 4A semifinals.
That road to the UNI Dome will go through Pella, as the 8-1 Dutch have been afforded home field advantage with the No. 3 overall seed in the Class 4A state playoffs based on the IHSAA RPI formula. It begins this Friday with #11-ranked Creek Creek Amana.
The Clippers (6-3 overall, tied for 1st in 4A District 3) are not an unfamiliar team for the Dutch; the pair were district opponents in 2021 and 2022, with Pella owning the all-time series 4-0. CCA defeated common foe Xavier on October 18th by a 28-24 margin.
Conlan Poynton has completed 67.4% of his 144 pass attempts and thrown for 1119 yards and 12 touchdowns and has also rushed for 843 yards and 16 scores and is by far the biggest Clipper threat on offense. Top receiver Owen Rosenberg has 43 catches for 599 yards and four scores.
Pella will host CCA, who lost a three-way tiebreaker on the scoring margin of victory metric reimplemented this fall season. The postseason will continued to be played at Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium at Central College. Listen to the Dutch this football postseason live on 92.1 KRLS and watch on Pella Dutch Live.
