A busy weather week will feature great variety as October ends. A wind advisory is in effect today, as wind gusts up to 40 MPH remain possible into the overnight hours. A round of moderate to heavy rain is possible starting later in the day Wednesday and should continue into early Thursday. The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk for severe weather, primarily Wednesday afternoon and evening.
After highs in the upper 70s will be common before the rain comes, daytime temperatures in the 50s will be more common through Saturday. After a brief dry period from Thursday afternoon through Saturday morning, additional chances for rain are expected throughout much of the weekend, according to the National Weather Service. Multiple rounds of rain will be beneficial as most of south central Iowa was rated as abnormally dry in the latest U.S. Drought Monitor Report, with drought spreading across the state.
