With a state tournament berth on the line, the Norwalk volleyball team gets a second crack at Pella tonight in a Class 4A regional championship game. The Region 6 final will be played at Pella High School starting at 7:00 p.m.
The 11th-ranked Warriors have won nine straight games. They improved to 28-13 with last week’s 3-1 regional semifinal win over Bondurant-Farrar, setting a single-season school record for wins. The fifth-ranked Dutch have won seven straight and are 38-7 on the season. They swept Burlington in three sets in the regional semis.
Pella and Norwalk have met just once this season, a Little Hawkeye Conference match on September 24 in Norwalk. The Dutch controlled the match from start to finish, winning 25-15, 25-21, 25-14. Warrior players Dakota Poen, Hadley Michael and Elle Hatlevig agree that Norwalk is fully capable of winning tonight’s rematch, citing a need for better communication and playing with high energy throughout the game.
The State Volleyball Tournament will be held November 4-7 at Xtream Arena in Coralville. Norwalk is seeking the program’s second consecutive state tourney appearance. Pella’s last trip to State was in 2018.
