The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is reminding local communities about Beggars Night safety.

Many local communities throughout Marion, Warren, and Jasper counties will be active tonight with kids trick or treating, especially during the hours of 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Law enforcement wants to make sure that motorists are being cautious and slow down tonight as some children will have limited visibility with their costumes and kids may not always watch where they’re going. It is also a good idea for kids to wear reflective tape on their costume or utilize glow sticks to make themselves more visible. Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholdt also says parents should have a plan in place and know where their kids are going if they’re going out without parental supervision. Sandholdt adds that parents should take precautions when kids get back as well.

“Parents need to be going through their kids’ stuff when they get back just making sure the wrappers don’t look like they’ve been tampered with on the candy bars or different things. We really encourage people to go to the houses where you know people, whether that be family, church, friends from the community.”
