The Knoxville Community School District will close on a property they own, which is being sold to Kwik Trip Inc. on November 13th.
The property on the corner of West Pleasant St. and Highway 14 will officially be acquired by the Wisconsin-based company to build a Kwik Star convenience store. The sale of this property was approved in December for $400,000. At a September Knoxville City Council meeting, the site plan was approved for Kwik Star, which includes a retail store, 20 spots for fueling and a car wash. Over the last year, the school district has gotten rid of a large portion of property that they owned directly across from Ken Locke Stadium, with the future Kwik Star land and the site of the former Knoxville Middle School. The land of the former middle school was gifted to the city for their new public safety/city hall facility. School Business Manager Craig Mobley said he is excited for what this space will do for the future of Knoxville.
“One of the most exciting things for us is just being able to see and watch the progress for Knoxville. With the new Kwik Star going up, with here pretty soon the city starting on their project with the new city building. I think it is going to be awesome when it is all done.”
Kwik Trip stores in Iowa are named Kwik Stars due to branding competition with an already existing company. The Wisconsin-based group has seen rapid growth in the midwest over the last decade, and will also open a store in Pella near the Washington St. and Highway 163 interchange, which is expected to be complete in fall of 2025.
