The Indianola boys cross country team qualified as a team to the state meet this afternoon in Fort Dodge, with no seniors on the varsity roster. Head coach Kevin Barnes tells KNIA Sports he could give all the coaching cliches about not looking ahead past this race, and he knows his team is focused on Fort Dodge and placing high, but this qualification can be a jump start for the athletes to build on next year.
“It feels like a no pressure situation here. Let’s go up and steal a place up there, let’s go up and steal something nobody thinks we can achieve, because next year we know what we will be able to achieve.”
The boys will run in the class 4A state meet at Fort Dodge at 2:45pm. The Indianola girls qualified Jordyn Brown and Taylor Hoger, who will be running as individuals starting at 2pm.
