The PCM football team will host Greene County tonight in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs.
The Mustangs are a perfect 9-0 on the season and are coming off a 41-19 win over Des Moines Christian last week in the opening round of the postseason. PCM will now take on the 5-4 Rams who defeated Clarinda 30-6 last week. The Mustangs hold a strong advantage over the Rams when it comes to offensive production this season as PCM has 1,450 passing yards as a team and 2,446 rushing yards compared with 894 passing yards and 1,393 rushing yards for Greene County. On defense the Mustangs have 16 team sacks and 55 tackles for loss as the Rams have six team sacks and 14 tackles for loss. PCM Coach Greg Bonnett who has had PCM in the postseason the last 14 seasons says it is important to go even harder in practice when preparing for postseason games.
“My strategy for these postseason games is to go even a little bit harder than what you were before. If you backed off a little bit in the late season on some contact things and maybe even some fundamental tackling drills or blocking drills that are a physical part of practice that you do earlier in the year. Normally you back off of those a little bit at the end of the season , but you kind of ramp them up now and get a more physical brand of practice going because it is going to have to be a more physical brand of football on Friday night.”
Tonight’s second round playoff game in Monroe starts at 7:00 pm and can be heard live on 95.3 KNIA.
