The Knoxville Fire Department is reminding citizens to safely store their propane tanks for the winter.

Knoxville Fire Chief Cal Wyman says people should just disconnect their propane tanks from their grills and not store them anywhere inside the house. Wyman says changing temperatures can make them expand, but that they have less problems with them in the winter than in the summer.

“Keeping them where you’re in a more climate controlled area, obviously not in your home as a climate control area. Most of the time outside in Iowa they will do just fine.”

If you are going to reconnect them at any point, it is important to make sure you have a clean connection.
