The Knoxville City Council approved additional funding for the Habitat for Humanity of Marion County Critical Home Repair Program at their meeting Monday night.
This is for authorization to apply for a Central Iowa Housing Trust Fund Grant in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Marion County for 2025. In 2023 the council approved $27,500 in funding for this program and in 2024 the council approved $25,000. At Monday’s meeting, the council approved $30,000 for this program, and that money will be drawn from the city’s Low Moderate Income (LMI) fund. Over the last two years, Habitat for Humanity has completed critical repairs to 23 different homes with the help of these funds. The median age of a Knoxville home is 53 years and Knoxville City Manger Heather Ussery says these funds help out the city and the organization.
“Some of the goals of the city are to make these repairs, and then for Habitat they are administering that program so overall it’s a win win for everyone.”
