Thad Nearmyer will join the Jasper County Board of Supervisors in January, and one of his main goals is to improve the working relationship between county and city leaders. The former Jasper County Republican Chairman was elected to replace Denny Stevenson on the Board of Supervisor. Nearmyer says he’s already talked to a number of city officials from across the county.

“I’ve had discussions with a couple of different council members in a couple of different communities already. We are just trying to figure out what that will look like. How we accomplish that goal.”

Nearmyer also notes the transition from County Chairman to Board of Supervisors candidate was harder than he anticipated.

“There is no end to the amount of meetings or places you could be at. You have to balance the events you think you need to be at with work out here on the farm.”

Nearmyer defeated Randy Ray by 6,261 votes to fill the vacancy created by the death of longtime County Supervisor Denny Carpenter in December 2022.
