A new idea for a policy change pertaining to student eligibility and regulations for free transportation to-and-from preschools and schools in the Newton School District was discussed at last night’s Newton School Board meeting. Newton School Board President Robyn Friedman and Board Member Travis Padget make up the District’s Board Policy Committee, and guided the conversation. They noted the new idea is designed to make the policy easier to understand and follow. It’s focused more on the locations of designated bus stops, than the eligibility of the student living a designated distance from their school. Monica Pritchard, the Newton School District’s Transportation Supervisor, said she believes the idea, and last night’s discussions, have merit.
“There are so many good points being thrown out on every part. I guess it’s just trying to figure out how to get there. Sometimes it is trial and error in my experience so far.”
The Newton School Board will continue to evaluate this new idea and attempt to get some input from parents in the coming weeks. School Board President Friedman said no change in board policy is expected to occur during this current school year.
