The Indianola football team went into the season expecting to rely on their rushing offense with returning running back Jake Pontier having a 1,000 yard season last year, and the season played out to expectations. Pontier rushed for 1071 yards and 17 touchdowns despite going against a stacked defensive box many games, and even contributed in the passing game as well with 171 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Head coach Eric Kluver tells KNIA Sports Pontier’s ability to just keep pushing forward was a huge asset.
“Jake’s an outstanding running back. We’ve talked about this many times, but his determination to not go down is his strength. He’s not a really big back, he’s not overly fast, but he has great vision, he leans forward, and he’s gonna fight for extra yards.”
Indianola went 5-4 on the season, narrowly missing the class 4A playoffs.
