Norwalk sophomore Mallory Betts anchored Des Moines Lincoln’s 200-yard medley relay to a 17th-place finish at the Girls State Swimming and Diving Meet in Marshalltown on Saturday.
The Rails’ team of Samantha Douds, Haylee Shaffer, Madelline De Meyer and Betts combined to clock a season-best time of 1:56.09 in the event, with Betts swimming the 50 freestyle leg. The Rails placed second in Heat 2 out of Lane 8 and just missed earning team points. They improved their state-qualifying seed by seven spots, finishing 17th out of 32 teams.
Betts was one of five Norwalk girls to compete for the Lincoln girls swimming and diving team this fall.
