Area-wide rainfall will move from south to north through the area starting early Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service, eventually overtaking much of the state. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected over much of the region.
In addition to rainfall, there may be a few thunderstorms as well, some of which may be strong to severe. The greatest chances for stronger storms will be in southern Iowa in the afternoon and evening hours, but occasional rumbles of thunder are possible throughout the day and across the entire area. This comes as drought conditions have improved in the last few weeks, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor Report.
Much cooler conditions are going to settle into the region by Wednesday, as daytime highs will be closer to 40 and overnight lows will dip into the 20s.
