Newton’s Girls Wrestling team opens the season tonight at Sigourney High School. The Cardinals are among 14 teams scheduled to compete starting at 5:00 p.m.. Coach Chad Jarvis started the girls program at Newton High School and is entering his third season. He has 24 girls on the team, which is double what he had in year one. He has three girls that have already wrestled at the State Tournament, and he expects them to do well again this year.

“ Kylee Adams, Stella Cupples, and Ashlyn Van Manen. I could see those three repeating that same feat and maybe even doing one better and placing at State.”

Some of the other schools wrestling at Sigourney tonight include Grinnell, North Mahaska, and Pleasantville.
