The Pleasantville girls basketball team will kick off their season tonight at home against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
The Pleasantville girls will return their entire team from last season. The Trojans roster this season will include seniors Joelle Johnson, Emily Roe, Hope DeMan, Manadia Ibrahim, Kyleigh McConnell, Faith Nelson, and Addie Van Ness. Johnson led the team in scoring last season by a large margin and was one of the top players in the entire state. DeMan, McConnell and Roe were the other significant offensive contributors from last year. Second year head coach Allyson Price says there are several advantages of bringing everyone back.
“I’m super excited that everyone is coming back. Just with the idea that they know what I wanted last year running the offense and running the defense. These practices, the first three days I haven’t had to do a lot of teaching because we already know what we are supposed to be doing from last year. It’s just been a lot of more practice being more competitive getting up and down so I’m going into practice feeling more ready I think just with them already knowing as a team what we’re anticipating to run.”
The Rockets, who made the state tournament last year hold a 13-3 advantage over the Trojans in the Bound era and will return Molly Shafer and Ava Eastlick who both combined for almost 900 points last season. Tonight’s game in Pleasantville will start at 7:30 pm. The boys team will scrimmage the Rockets at Eddyville tonight as well.
