The PCM girls basketball team defeated Knoxville 61-25 in Monroe Tuesday night, a game heard live on 95.3 KNIA.
The Mustangs got up early on the Panthers and never looked back as they cruised to their second win of the season. PCM was led in scoring by senior Addison Steenhoek who had 20 points, and a large number of the Mustangs roster was able to get in the scoring column in the contest. Hannah Dunkin led the Panthers in scoring with 12 points. PCM attempted a staggering 54 shots on the night compared with just 29 for Knoxville while the Mustangs outrebounded the Panthers 32 to 15. Knoxville committed 18 turnovers in the game as PCM had eight. PCM Head Coach Sami Allison-Rodriguez was pleased with her team’s performance in the game.
“I thought we moved the ball really well in transition. Knoxville sitting in that zone was really good for us, we hadn’t seen a lot of that yet. We didn’t see that in Chariton and not nearly as much. I’m super glad we got to see that. I thought we moved the ball really well, got it inside, back out, back inside, skipped it well so overall I’m really pleased with how we handled ourselves on the offensive end.”
Knoxville Coach Matt Ritchhart said he feels his team did well putting on pressure at the beginning of the game.
“We emphasized ball pressure, and we did a good job early as our legs were fresh, but as the game wore on they made some adjustments and sealed us in on some ball screens”
PCM improves to 2-0 on the season and will next compete on Tuesday at West Marshall while Knoxville falls to 0-1 and will be back in action on Tuesday as well at Van Meter.
