Operations for the newly integrated school board at Pella Christian Schools have been going well according to Head of Schools Dan Zylstra.
Society members at Pella Christian voted on the integration of the grade school and high school boards into one legal entity in February, with over 90% of ballots approving the merger. The integration went into effect July 1st of this year, and Zylstra says that the transition has gone smoothly. Zylstra says that the boards are currently working on some big projects, and that he is grateful to see the hard work that went into merging the school boards paying off.
“We’re exploring salary increases for our teachers to be competitive with the governor’s $50,000 minimum teacher salary mandate, and that’s been good work for the board to walk through and explore. We’re working on our mission and our vision. We had two separate schools, so we had a different mission and vision statement for each school, now we want to merge those. Overall, a lot of work went in to pass that merger and move forward. And the fruit of that, in terms of efficiency and in common goals, it’s bearing itself out nicely in the school and its operations.”
