The Newton City Council has approved changes to parking on two city blocks directly east of the downtown square. 

Due to new streetscape improvements, the width of the streets in the 100 blocks of East 2nd and East 3rd Street North will be narrowed. Newton City staff says those streets will no longer be capable of accommodating diagonal parking. Following a recommendation from the city’s traffic safety committee, Newton City Council members have voted to change parking in these two blocks from diagonal to parallel parking.
