Knoxville School Board member Dave Smith has submitted his resignation.

Smith issued the following statement regarding his resignation.

“Dear fellow School Board members, Superintendent Pearson and Board Secretary Craig Mobley, I am writing to resign from my position as a member of the Knoxville School Board, effective at the next school board meeting.

Serving on the school board has been a rewarding experience. I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside dedicated and passionate staff, teachers and administrators. I have appreciated the chance to contribute to the progress and success of our school district and the well-being of the students we serve. I remain hopeful for the continued growth and development of our schools.

I thank everyone for the opportunity to serve on the board. I wish the entire school district continued success in the years to come.”

A statement by the district states:

“The district wishes Mr. Smith and his family the very best in their new adventures and thanks him for his five years of service on the board which included being on the facilities committee and serving as board president for a year.”

The Knoxville Community School District is now seeking interested candidates to fill the vacancy. The remaining school board members will consider interested candidates to fill this vacancy by appointment. Qualifications include being 18 years of age and residing in the school district. Interested individuals should contact Board Secretary Craig Mobley at the KCSD District Office, 418 S Park Lane Drive, (641) 842-6551 or by email at craig.mobley@kcsd.k12.ia.us as soon as possible. The next board meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 16. If the board is unable to fill the vacancy by appointment within 30 days or a petition for an election is submitted by December 27th, a special election will be held in early February.
