Nineteen-year-old Christian Blauw was sentenced to a 25 year prison sentence Thursday in Marion County District Court after violating his probation from a sexual abuse case.
Marion County Assistant Attorney Ross Gibson who represented the state in this case issued the following statement.
“Defendant Christian Blauw previously pleaded guilty to Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree, a class B felony. At Sentencing, on June 20, 2024, the Marion County Attorney’s Office requested a prison sentence. Mr. Blauw was ultimately granted probation and ordered to reside at the Fort Des Moines facility. Mr. Blauw appeared in Court on December 5, 2024 after the filing of several probation violations.
At the hearing, the State was represented by Assistant Marion County Attorney Ross Gibson and the Defendant was represented by Bryan Tingle. The Honorable District Court Judge Stacy Ritchie presided. Mr. Blauw stipulated to violating the terms of his probation by violating Fort Des Moines rules for having unauthorized access to a cell phone and social media. It is unknown how the Defendant was able to have access to a cell phone at the Fort Des Moines facility. The State and the Defendant jointly requested that the Defendant’s probation be revoked and sentenced to prison. Judge Ritchie revoked Defendant’s probation and ordered the Defendant to serve a 25 year prison term. Because the Defendant was a juvenile at the time of the offense, no mandatory minimum prison sentence was ordered. The Parole Board will determine when Defendant may be released on parole.”
This case stems from an incident when Blauw was 16 and sexually abused someone under the age of ten. Blauw pleaded guilty to this charge on June 30th, 2023.
