The Simpson women’s swim team returned to the pool this weekend to face off at the Pioneer Classic in Grinnell. At the meet, the team faced five different teams, coming out with a third place finish, defeating Soka University, Morningside University, and Washington University St. Louis.
During the meet, Kate Minette had a standout weekend, breaking two school records in the 100 yard freestyle and the 200 yard freestyle.
Minette previously held the 100 yard freestyle record with a 54.16 that she set just over a year ago on December 1, 2023. This weekend she solidified her number one spot on the leaderboard, going below 54 seconds with a 53.92 time in the preliminary races.
In the 200 yard freestyle, Kate Minette nearly raced under two minutes with a 2:00.60, breaking the previous record that was set by Breanna Yeutsy on February 10, 2017 with a time of 2:01.21. Senior Kate Minette now holds the school record in the 50 yard freestyle, 100 yard freestyle, and 200 yard freestyle.
The Storm will return to the water next year, heading back to Grinnell for the Grinnell Invite on January 17-18, 2025.
