Basketball Squads Host Clarke

Both Knoxville Basketball Squads are back in the gym tonight as the Panthers host Clarke. Both teams won in opposite types of games as the girls took a hard fought win over Cardinal on Friday while the boys had little resistance in a 68 point drubbing. Clarke has been a nemesis for the Panthers in recent seasons and for the boys especially. Knoxville once dominated the series, now has lost five of six to the Indians, but with graduation losses taking its toll on Clarke the Indians have begun the season 0-3. That said, Coach Joel Keady tells KNIA/KRLS Sports Clarke still has a few holdovers that his team needs to be ready for.

Keady: “They look like they’re going to press and get up and down. They’re going to junk up the game, and we need to be prepared for it.”

The girls teams are similar in that both suffered heavy losses after last season. Clarke is 0-3 on the season and the Indian’s margin of loss is an average of 30 points per game. Coach Matt Ritchhart cautions that his team is not one just yet to walk out and expect a team to lay down. Live coverage is on 95.3 KNIA at 6:00 with the girls starting at 6:15.

Girls Wrestling Heads To Chariton

In Chariton the girls wrestling squad will compete in a five team dual. The Panthers will face EBF, Chariton, Albia and BGM. Knoxville is coming off a 6th place at the Newton Invitational on Saturday as three wrestlers finished in the top three. First bouts are set for 5:00.
