Recently named one of ten “festive Christmas towns [that] feel like a Hallmark movie” by Midwest Living, Pella’s latest designation coincided with the non-profit Spirit of Pella’s effort to film a short Hallmark-style movie this past weekend.

Teaming up with Pella Fiber’s Programming Coordinator, Monte Goodyk, production sites included the Vermeer Windmill, the Tunnel of Lights in Central Park, the Kerstmarkt Christmas market on the Molengracht, the Sinterklaas parade, horse-drawn carriage rides, and Christmas shopping in downtown Pella. It also featured several extras from the community.

Nashville screenwriter and director of two feature films, Jamey Durham, wrote the script for the romantic comedy and volunteered to be in Pella to direct the short film .

“I’m a big Pella fan, so when Spirit of Pella offered me the opportunity to help showcase one of the most charming and distinctive communities I’ve ever known, I jumped at the chance,” said Durham. “Our goal for the short film is to tell a heartwarming story that will generate pride among residents and pique the curiosity of prospective visitors so they’ll include Pella in their holiday travels.”

Volunteer actors Dane Stevenson and Hailey Swan, a 2022 Central College graduate, star in the movie. The goal is to have the short film released by Christmas this year.
