Newton School Superintendent Tom Messenger says the foundation for the addition onto Thomas Jefferson Elementary School should be completed on time. Messenger told the school board last night that potential delays have been avoided, as the weather has warmed up and the addition of more rock at the building site has been completed.

“As the result of the engineer’s report, which said a little more needed to be done there. So some more of the surface was dug up and rock added in.”

Messenger notes mostly inside work is currently occurring as part of the addition and renovation at Aurora Heights Elementary.

During last night’s Newton School Board meeting, board members also recognized fall sports athletes who were state qualifiers. Newton Athletics and Activities Director Ryan Rump introduced the athletes and their coaches.

“It really was an outstanding fall season. A lot of successes. A lot of great experiences. A lot of great achievements.”

For the first time since 2003, the Newton Cardinal football team qualified for the state playoffs for the third year in a row. The girls swim team had five individuals and four relays qualify for state and finished 13th overall. Cooper Lenz qualified for state in boys cross country, and Audrey Muckler was a girls cross country qualifier.
