Indianola Mayor Stephanie Erickson has elected to continue to serve as Indianola Mayor, in addition to serving on the Warren County Board of Supervisors after being elected in the November general election. Mayor Erickson issued a statement:
“Serving as Mayor of Indianola has been an incredible honor and privilege. When I initially decided to run for Supervisor in District 4, my plan was to step down as Mayor at the end of this year, should I win the race, and transition fully into my new role as Supervisor on January 2, 2025.
However, under current Iowa legislation, I am permitted to hold both positions since they are part-time roles, and as Mayor, I do not have a vote. With the significant staff transitions the city faced in 2024 and now beginning the critical process of recruiting a new city manager, it has become clear how important stability is for our city staff, ongoing developments, and the overall cohesion of our community.
For this reason, I have decided not to step down as Mayor at the end of the year. I will continue serving in this role while also fulfilling my responsibilities as Supervisor, ensuring there is no conflict of interest between the two positions. However, I have not committed to holding both roles long term and will step back from my role as Mayor at the appropriate time.
My priority remains keeping our community united, successfully navigating these transitions, and ensuring Indianola continues on its path of growth and success. I am deeply grateful for your trust and support, and I look forward to the opportunities ahead as we work together to strengthen our community.”
