The next construction meeting for the Thomas Jefferson Elementary School addition and renovation in Newton will occur next week. Newton School Superintendent Tom Messenger says the meeting is scheduled for this Tuesday, December 18th at the school.
The foundation for the addition onto Thomas Jefferson Elementary is expected to be finished on schedule. According to Messenger, potential delays have been avoided with warmer weather and the addition of more rock at the building site.
At the Aurora Heights addition and renovation, the Newton Superintendent says most of the work is continuing to be done inside.
The renovation and additions at these elementary schools is part of the district’s plan to have just two of Newton’s four elementary buildings in use starting with the 2026-2027 school year. Last school year, all four were open. This year three are being used. The reduction in buildings is due to the district’s continued trend of declining enrollment.
